ABSTRACT

Approval of Sun's application would require concurrences of bureaucracies at the University of Texas, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Washington, the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Peking, and the administrators of the Fulbright Program. The threat of delay from small problems such as visas, transportation costs, and housing was overcome, and on March 5, Sun Yutang was formally invited to be a Guest Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for ten weeks from July 1 to September 15,1982.
