ABSTRACT

Centuries ago, Aristotle observed that systems of rulership "which have a regard to the common interest are constituted in accordance with strict principles of justice, and are therefore true forms; but those which regard only the interest of the rulers are all defective and perverted forms." 1 In its simplest formulation perversion is a violation of obligations. More precisely, perversion is a discrepancy between the actual distribution of rights and obligations in a dominance system and what people believe that distribution should be.
