ABSTRACT
The opinions of comrades who joined in the study of the iron and steel target are: fix this year’s reliable production target for steel products at 9 million tons; take 9 million tons of steel products as the quantity to distribute to the ministries, provinces and cities. The comrades from the Ministry of Metallurgy at the meeting believed that a target of 9 million tons of steel products is too low and it will discourage people at lower levels. More than 40 percent of the iron smelted by small blast furnaces contains sulphur exceeding the standard of two per thousand set by the Ministry of Metallurgy. Some say that this share is at least 50 percent. If this condition does not change, there will be 4 or 5 million tons of pig iron that exceed the standard for sulfur content.
