ABSTRACT

This chapter provides all basic political, economic, and demographic data on a territorial unit of the Russian Federation, Koryak Autonomous Okrug. Koryak Autonomous Okrug encompasses the northern section of the Kamchatka peninsula, the adjoining parts of the mainland, and Karaginskii Island. The okrug borders Magadan Oblast and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. Bronevich’s policies have exhibited two main goals: raising the Koryak Autonomous Okrug to a position of greater self-sufficiency, and ensuring that the interests of the okrug’s indigenous peoples receive top priority. The governor’s plan for economic progress involves development and diversification of the region’s manufacturing industry. This will increase the local population’s share in the profits resulting from the exploitation of the okrug’s natural resources.
