ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the university policy adopted by the military regime that replaced Pern. It addresses, whether the generals of the military regime really succeeded in restoring freedom to the universities, or whether such an achievement could not be expected of a government of this type. The chapter explores the military regime, sought to purge the universities of all Peronist influences, just as it was doing in the elementary and secondary schools. The new regime, declaring its intention of guiding Argentina back to democracy, sought to do the same for the universities, whose autonomy, it claimed, had been crippled during the Peronist era. The Argentine University Federation confirms that democracy and liberty must be affirmed with certain concrete measures that cannot be delayed: The repeal of the repressive legislation the internal State of War.
