ABSTRACT

The military plan was for the First Cavalry Division, which began to relieve the First Marine Division, which had driven north to Uijonbu; then the First Cavalry Division would drive north toward Pyongyang. The Eighth Army headquarters was to move into Seoul. General Walker had consented to release of the First Marine Regiment, or combat team, to re-join the First Division. The First Marine Regiment was holding a critical portion of his line and had made the counteroffensive against the communist penetration of the line between the Second Division and the Twenty-fifth Division. The requirements for blankets, which are really quilts that people procured in Japan, and for medical supplies and other equipment continued. The medical teams began immunization programs, because people found the usual smallpox, diphtheria, typhoid and typhus occurring among the civilians who had remained behind when the communists withdrew to the north.
