ABSTRACT

Functioning within a small group is part of the American culture. Nearly all Fortune 500 companies have adopted this method into their workforce. Understanding the dynamics of groups and the impact of people's own behaviour within a group is critical to their success in the workforce and in life. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Citizens' Utility Board (CUB) have sprung up as a result of people demanding to have a voice in determining policies that affect their lives. Discussion has been a vital part of your formal education. Many instructors employ a lecture-discussion format, and group discussion is often used in classes to promote learning. Social discussion usually occurs spontaneously and is temporary, unstructured, and informal and a typical example of social discussion would be a group of students sitting around a table in the student union, discussing the federal government's focus on only funding colleges that keep tuition increases to a minimum.
