ABSTRACT

Speeches that relay personal experiences add a special dimension to public presentations. While searching for sources of information for reader's speech, one must remember that the experiences and knowledge of other people can enhance almost any topic. Several areas of the library can help us research our topic in order to prepare a more thorough speech. These include the classification system used by the library, the online catalog, indexes and databases, and the Internet. This chapter describes two classification systems namely Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress (LC). Periodicals, written sources published at regular intervals provide a wealth of factual and interpretive information on hundreds of topics. Magazine articles are more in-depth than newspaper articles because of the additional time provided for research and because of the greater amount of space allotted to these stories. Journals contain research findings carried out in a particular field, such as medicine, social welfare, social welfare, or communication.
