ABSTRACT

This chapter explains that there are different types of informative speeches, and for each topic, there are several diverse approaches. It uses the methods of narration, description, definition, and demonstration to present an informative speech. The chapter divides into three sections: informative speech topics, organizing the informative speech, and methods for presenting an informative speech. It finds a sample informative speech, complete with commentary. The purpose of an informative speech is to educate an audience. The bulk of informative speech topics fall into one of the following categories: recreation, concepts, places, objects, people, and events. As the subject of informative speeches, places can include such things as institutions, historical sites, cities, geologic landforms, and buildings. Our environment is filled with thousands of unique and interesting objects; many make ideal subjects for an informative speech. People represent a tremendous source for speech topics.
