ABSTRACT

This chapter is focused on the role of the policy perspective for digital business. The recent development of the Internet, combined with its novel nature, raises issues for policy makers that are unique and often not well understood. In this chapter, we review the history and nature of public policy, and we consider several policy-related issues in the Internet environment. The overarching goal of this chapter is to describe the role and scope of policy, and to delimit areas that may be affected by regulatory decisions, thus influencing what businesses can do.
