3 Hardie, for his part, considers also the idea of a question mark after iuvenes, with an interrogative qui to follow (Heyne). But we would rather expect qui before primus to be the relative and not the substantival form of the interrogative as Hardie himself is well aware (cf. E. Löfstedt, Syntactica II 79ff.; Fordyce (1977) on A. 7. 38).
