As for the three examples of archsinners in the passage 6. 580–94 – the Titans, the Aloids and Salmoneus – the essential points focused on are partly their revolt against the Olympian gods (580–4), especially against Jupiter, partly their impious imitation of Jupiter (585–94), but nothing specifically is said about their punishments in Tartarus. With the following examples from 595 onwards the situation changes. Vergil's six lines on the punishment of Tityus is close to a paraphrase of Od. 11. 576–81:
