ABSTRACT

This chapter presents selected findings and explanations previously discussed and qualified. Parsimony provides one major theoretical reason because one mathematical function describes each curve, providing or requiring the same interpretation and explanation throughout and at each successive point. In the explanation of culture change, materialism and idealism are the major doctrines. The extent of that part authors don't know yet, but it seems that societal problem-solving theory is dialectical rather than either idealistic or materialistic, and so is the proposed explanation of 150-year cyclical culture change. In their methods, they have self-consciously opted for quantitative descriptions of culture dynamics, which inevitably affected our findings and explanations. Therefore, their projects require that, by providing and examining their own interpretations and explanations, they study aspects of their subjects' documents that they produced in a largely unwitting fashion.
