ABSTRACT
It's one of screenwriter's tasks to convince people that the two people should be together. There are reasons that will root for individuals to become a couple. And there are deal breakers as well to beware of, or at least to be aware of. Unrequited love is a perfectly legitimate form of story, but screenwriter has to be careful/the unloved one can slip into becoming either pathetic or self-pitying/stalker. With either one of these, one lose hope that these two people could possibly be together. Its fine to have them end up apart. What does not work is for the audience to give up hope. If there is no hope, one lose interest. People are hooked by the unanswered question. Once the answer is obvious, they will turn their attention elsewhere. There are four types of pairings that will always root for. They are Twins, Opposites, Life Force and Sleepwalker, and Soul Mates.
