ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses changes in translating practice by conceptualizing them, in Schatzkian terms, as significant changes that are due to differences in practices or their elements triggered by events or processes that befall practices. We illustrate this approach by focusing on a specific example, namely the changes in the practice of translating brought about by the integration of the activity of post-editing machine translation. We explore these changes by considering the trajectories of the materials, competences and meanings of the practice, and discuss some of the implications of this development.
