ABSTRACT
Denis Diderot (1713-84) died just two hundred years ago. Yet he lives on – through the Encyclopédie which set the stage for the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution, and through his brilliant Conversations, in which we hear his ideas now as spoken; for like the very best conversation they are both truly profound and immensely amusing.
