ABSTRACT
Alan Turing (1912-54) was one of the two key figures in the creation of electronic digital computers and artificial intelligence, the other being the Hungarian-American mathematician John von Neumann (1903-57). Working almost entirely independently, these remarkable men not only set the stage but built the scenery and wrote the script for the computer revolution and also for descriptions of mind in terms of computing procedures.
