ABSTRACT
We can be faced with trying to decide whether our observations are sufficiently reliable to be the basis of publishable conclusions in science. This of course is the besetting question for claims of ESP, since what is claimed is so unlikely that we prefer to reject the ‘observations’ and with them the claims. But it can also be a problem in ‘normal’ science, especially perhaps when the observer’s background knowledge is inadequate. Here is an example.
