ABSTRACT
It is odd that both writing and pictures are uniquely human accomplishments. This is so though almost all animals have elaborate symbolic communications, including rich varieties of gestures and in ‘higher’ species facial expressions, as most brilliantly discussed by Darwin in The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals (1872).
