ABSTRACT

An inclusive classroom is hard to define but it is about developing the least restrictive environment. Not every child is going to be able to do all the four competencies of speaking, listening, reading and writing equally well. Developing differentiated learning has meant an evolution in the role of the teacher from a simple imparter of knowledge to a multi-skilled professional who leads and guides groups and individuals towards their peak. People learn in different ways and, in the past, schools focused very much on a reading and writing approach to grammar and vocabulary. Through research on literacy and thinking skills, we have come to realize that there are many different routes to the same goal. Good direct teaching is achieved by balancing different elements: Directing Sharing teaching objectives with the class, ensuring that pupils know what to do and drawing attention to points over which they should take particular care.
