ABSTRACT
This book is a combination of economic and environmental history of South India of the colonial period (1792-1947). It attempts to complement each other by identifying the areas hitherto ignored and thereby reducing the existing gap in the backdrop of the decline and disintegration of tribal economy during the span of 155 years covering the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. It is a contribution to both economic and environmental history alike as the literature on the former has not focused on the latter and again the studies concerning the latter have not accommodated the former.
