ABSTRACT

123When you look at infants and young children, it is obvious that their ability to think and reason is much less than that of older children and adults. This is due in large measure to the fact that they have less knowledge at their disposal. In addition, it is likely that they see the world and think in ways that are very different to ours. For example, when my children were very young, they thought you could tell someone’s age by seeing how tall they were! That is an understandable error given that most five-year-old children are taller than most four-year-old children, who in turn are taller than most three-year-olds. What do you think goes on in young children’s minds?
