ABSTRACT

This conclusion provides an overview of key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book identifies how professional football is an industry that involves unscrupulous activities by agent and directors, quite often including unethical and in some cases illegal recruitment practices. It identifies the key findings of the research and provides recommendations for football managers, clubs and football's governing bodies. The book outlines an agenda for avenues for future research, derived from the limitations of the current study and from issues raised during the course of this study. It examines the recruitment and appointment of managers, attitudes towards previous playing experience and formal education, the assessment and recruitment of players, the process of establishing discipline, the role of agents and the relationship between managers and directors/owners. The book explains the managers' hostility towards formal education and coaching qualifications in professional football.
