ABSTRACT

Aleksander fought for three years for his inscription as the father on Aleksandra's birth certificate before he began to think about activism. His 2002 hunger strike at the Ljubljana Zoo raised media awareness of the erased people. Aleksander was one of the first erased people to get permanent resident status, and with that obtained, a re-issued birth certificate indicated that he was Aleksandra's father. The ideal state of a body without organs is relational, mobile and recombinatorial, temporary, lacking restraints, moving in excess of the boundaries and bordered authority of subjects and objects, insides and outsides. Aleksander Todorovic is now widely recognized as the initiator and most important beginning activist of, and contributor to, the Izbrisani movement. For the Izbrisani there was a radical disruption of identity as a consequence of bare life that began in 1991 and led to a state of exception through which they were erased.
