ABSTRACT

My intention is two-fold. First, it is to characterize the general theoretical orientation that directs research in our laboratory at MIT, and second, to discussthat orientation in terms of research (our own and that of others) in the area of language production. In fact, of course, our investigation of language production processes is quite closely tied to work on comprehension processes. I will comment on that connection and its implication for theories of the relation between formal grammatical theory and processing theory.
