The education landscape changes over time. With each government comes new initiatives and agendas aimed at improving standards and school performance. Layered within this is the functionality of geography with the school curriculum. Regardless of how the government or schools see the purpose of geography, it is role as geography teachers to attempt to raise the profile of the subject and to highlight the increased significance geography plays in all lives. The best way to get students to opt for geography is to make them enjoy the subject. This can be in part achieved by the design of curriculum and programmes of study. Making the students part of the decision making process can help to achieve this target. Create geography brand at school. This can be achieved through the words say, posters, displays and the publicity around geography at school. Building a brand is a long-term goal.
