ABSTRACT

Questioning is at the heart of all outstanding teaching; in fact, questioning is what most 'outstanding' teachers spend most of their time doing.' 'Outstanding' teachers understand the power of a good questioning technique. The questioning interactions that have with a student can be the catalyst for something great; it may be the piece in the jigsaw that the student was missing, but through questioning all the pieces finally fit and big picture is clear. The questions that ask students be used for a variety of purposes, such as to measure what they already know or to engage and encourage students to develop their geographical literacy. Questions that challenge students most often be open questions aimed at developing the students' understanding and requiring them to think more deeply in order to provide a logical answer. Verbal questioning to assess the students' knowledge and understanding involves thoughtful question selection and also carefully listening to the students' responses.
