ABSTRACT
The thesis of this book is that we — our culture in general and the science of linguistics in particular — have a false view of the nature of language. According to this thesis the realities in which we human beings effectively live our lives are realities which we have constructed, and language is the primary instrument of such reality construction. It is suggested, furthermore, that reality construction is probably to be regarded as the primary function of human language.
