ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on our main observations throughout this book. First, we address our main arguments with regard to the many different ways network perspectives relate to organised crime. We emphasise the value in moving beyond metaphorical uses of the network concept to analyse the precise ways in which organised criminal groups and their activities are networked. Second, we turn our attention to law enforcement networks, including the contribution of the book for researchers in this field and for practitioners responsible for designing and managing networks. We consider the structural and relational properties of networks, their underlying dynamics and tensions, and various other considerations for the effectiveness and efficiency of networks. Throughout each of these areas, we reflect on how the book has synthesised existing research and given directions to improve this field.
