ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the issue of airspace, the electromagnetic spectrum, the struggle of Israel to dominate this zone and the challenges they are facing. It aims to uncover another degree of weakness Israel is concealing, another prospect for a new map drawn by Palestinians with the airspace being the ‘new ground’ or ‘space of possibility’ that Palestinians could share with the birds that break all boundaries. According to basic principles of international air laws, any country should enjoy complete and exclusive sovereignty over the airspace above its territory as a continuous link from the surface of the ground to the sky. The heavy dependence of Israel on its air force, leading to a high density of military aircraft and the consequent tight security measures, have long been facing a different kind of threat than that being calculated in their negotiations and signed agreements.
