ABSTRACT

The final chapter is dedicated to reflections on key principles for guiding healthy planning in Australia. It recognises that the way we approach urban planning for health is just as important as what we plan. We cover three key concepts: promoting equity, incorporating diversity and slowing down our speeded-up world. These are processes that define many elements of modern life. An understanding of them is crucial to the advancement of the healthy built environment agenda in Australia and elsewhere. We emphasise the dire need to return to equity as a key driver of urban planning decision-making, signified by the (re)prioritisation of human wellbeing over economic growth.
