ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the importance of surrendering to God's providence, as well as re-examine contemplative prayer as a vehicle through which one can cultivate an attitude of surrender in the presence of God. It briefly explores the benefits of surrendering in daily living, extending one's formal practice to day-to-day experiences. Beyond formal practice, one have the ability to surrender to God in each passing moment, captured in their breathing. In other words, because God has given them the 'breath of life', they can easily bring their awareness to the breathing process, anchoring themselves to God's active, loving presence by focusing on their breathing for three minutes at a time. Consistent with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy's (MBCT) 'three-minute breathing space', this practice can help one to let go in daily living when he/she notice they are worrying to generate a predictable, controllable future.
