ABSTRACT

In the language of social science, China’s propaganda strategy against Taiwan is known as “framing.” Using mass media, political leaders, organizations, education, and other devices, Beijing has sought to frame the argument on Taiwan by shaping the concepts and theoretical perspectives that define the discourse on the issue. In other words, framing sets out to define a version of “reality” and to reinforce that definition with others so that it becomes the reality. The core axes of Chinese propaganda on the subject are that (1) Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and (2) that reunification is inevitable.
