ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 first presents an overview of the application of social marketing to improving public health. Ten recent public health success stories are featured, each focused on behavior change to address some of the major public health issues in the U.S.: Heroin-Related Overdose Deaths, School Cafeteria Nutrition, HIV/AIDS, Maternal and Child Health, Diabetes, Youth Physical Activity, Heart-Related Disease, Teen Pregnancies, Teen HPV Vaccination Coverage, and Tobacco Use. Each case story is told with three major sections: The Problem, The Social Marketing Solution, The Results. The chapter concludes with a summary of intervention tools attributed to the success of these campaigns.
