ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the musical instruments, including the amazing human voice and the body in which it is housed. It focuses on the theoretical background to the voice and singing. The chapter discusses the topic from the perspective of the pedagogue and their actions: sharing songs with others and encouraging people to explore the possibilities of their voices and the enjoyment of singing together. Music is experienced and felt in the body and voice; the fundamental instruments work together and are consciously experienced as musical tools and expressers of music and emotion, which can be transferred to instrumental playing. The development of young children’s singing voices has been approached from many perspectives. One person blows bubbles, and the rest of the group makes sounds with their voice and mouth while looking at the bubbles. Ellen Dissanayake describes the evolutionary changes that took place in order for humans to walk upright.
