ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters in the second part of this book. The part of the book introduces some perspectives which are brought into the practical world with material to explore various aspects of learner-centred pedagogy. This material is shaped around themes: the group as an orchestra, team and learning environment, music, emotions and interaction, voice and body as first instruments, making music visible and tangible and improvising and learning music with instruments. It This material has mainly been developed through work with students of music teaching, continuing professional development courses and conference workshops, and can be used in a number of ways. First, the activities can be adapted to suit your music education or community music practice. Second, a workshop process can be used as a starting point for reflection and discussion with colleagues at network events and meetings.
