ABSTRACT

Quantitative measures of PTG continue to be developed. In this chapter we examine the development of the most widely used measure of positive post-trauma change—the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). Related versions are also reviewed, including the short-form version, the most recent expanded version (PTGI-X), versions that include both growth and depreciation (PTGI 42 and the PTGDI 50), and adaptations for use with children. Measures developed by others to tap constructs that overlap with PTG are also reviewed. The chapter includes discussion about the validity of PTG measures, and concludes with two other scales that have been designed to tap components of the PTG model: the Core Beliefs Inventory and the Event Related Rumination scale.
