ABSTRACT

This fantasy genre session uses props, images and a story-starter to develop and inspire ideas. It moves through a whole-class writing scenario, with a focus on a slow build with intense description and detail at each stage. Pupils build their story one scene at a time whilst responding directly to images that inform characterisation. (The impact on each group having their own dragon is significant in terms of engagement with the activity. One dragon per pupil has even greater impact. However, if preparation time is an issue, images can be shown on screen, and baby dragons can be chosen this way instead.)
