ABSTRACT

There is, I admit, implicit in such a claim a rejection of the conclusions of the majority of contemporary philosophers and sociologists. [4] As we saw in the case of the relativistic version of the later-Wittgenstein, transcendental arguments that found objectivity judgements upon cultural invariants are almost universally rejected. 'Transcendental deductions', as such transcendental arguments are called, are considered impossible. All that is possible and all that philosophers ought to be concerned with are 'metaphysical expositions'.
