ABSTRACT
Founded in 1764, St. Louis, Missouri, is known as the Gateway to the West. Its 2013 estimated population was 318,416, white persons comprising 43.5 percent of the population and black persons comprising 47.9 percent. The city covers 61.74 square miles and has 28 wards (City of St. Louis, Missouri 2015, A19-A20).
