ABSTRACT
The pastoral interview is designed to create an atmosphere of respect in which the congregant feels safe to disclose important and sensitive information. Clergy gather information throughout the interview via active listening and thoughtful questioning. As the congregant discloses, the rabbi needs to analyze the content of what is being said and make sense of it in order to rank priorities, establish goals, and pick a course of action.
