ABSTRACT

SofarwehaveexaminedtheanaphoraoptionsofdefiniteNPsonly,and ignoredintheexamplescaseswithindefiniteorquantifiedantecedents. Thiswasnecessarysincewhilethelatterobservetheanaphoraconditions weexamined((17)and(40)ofChapter2)theseconditionsarenot sufficienttohandleallanaphorafactsofquantifiedNPs,whichseemto requireaspecial,strongercondition.Wehavealsoconsideredinthe previousdiscussiononlyanaphorainvolvingnon-R(eflexiveorreciprocal) pronouns,sincethelatter,too,whileobservingthegeneralanaph oraconditionsrequireaspecific,strongerrestriction.
