ABSTRACT

This chapter incorporates sustainability transitions theory and the multi-level perspective (MLP) as an overarching framework for understanding problems and solutions to sustainability. The goal of sustainability transitions is to encourage socio-technical system change, which involves a co-evolutionary process that links institutions, technologies, and infrastructures. Building upon the previous chapters, the MLP is used as a framework to help sustainability professionals understand the roles of transition actors, the transition processes, and transition arenas that are important to encourage socio-technical system changes in the direction of sustainability principles.
