ABSTRACT

Introduction In this chapter, you will read about ACT’s observing self process, which can help you relate to your inner experiences with a bit more openness, disengaging from an overreliance on them so as to follow your values exibly. Specically, the observing self is a way to take a different perspective, viewing unpleasant thoughts, feelings, and sensations with distance and detached awareness. Similar to watching boats oat by as you stand on a dock, the observing self can allow you to experience psychological pain with a more curious, non-judgmental attitude, pivoting towards value-based living in the process.
