ABSTRACT

Introduction In this chapter, you will explore the common characteristics of emotional disorders. Moreover, you will learn about several additional features of major depressive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder, namely distress and impaired functioning. The distinction between symptoms and distress/ impairment is an important one, given that ACT suggests that your symptoms may never fully go away; yet, ACT can help you begin to respond to your symptoms differently, leading to the ability to live out the values that matter most to you.
