January 5: To Washington, arriving noon. To Hay-Adams House. Busy afternoon. Saw Allen Griffin, Foster (head of E.C.A.), Ross, NcArne, Boynton, Meiklejohn and several others. Had 2 hours (6–8) with George Greene and a couple of his men, then the Spikers dined with me here.
