ABSTRACT

Some Brazilian companies have developed innovative Big data (BD) and cloud-based solutions, taking into account unique local problems and opportunities. This chapter describes key features of the Brazilian BD and cloud industry and market. The World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Information Technology Report 2012 provides useful insights into the economic and infrastructural situations facing the Brazilian cloud industry and market. Regarding institutional and policy-related factors from the cloud's standpoint, it is notable and encouraging that highly motivated federal and local governments have focused on policies aimed at transforming Brazil into a world-class data center hub. The Brazilian cloud computing industry and market possess unique and idiosyncratic features, which are associated with the country's economic, political, cultural, and social factors. BD and cloud solution adoptions in Brazil are being driven by telecom operators and the financial industry, as well as by firms in retail and health care.
