ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book attempts to create a working paradigm for the development of Black theology in Britain. The selection of the material in this Reader corresponds to the criteria as we have defined it at an earlier juncture in this chapter. It offers extracts that seek to chart the development of Black Caribbean Christianity, in the many islands where a significant number of Black British Christians trace their immediate antecedents. The book explains the unheralded Sheroes' of the Black theology in Britain movement, namely, Valentina Alexander. It offers a number of brief vignettes of the way in which Black theology in Britain has been suffused with and has responded to the insights and analysis of the outsider's voice.
