ABSTRACT

People love stories. Telling stories about ourselves is a way of making sense of our lives and the world around us. So we recount the events of our day, talk on the phone, text or engage in social media interaction. Listening to stories through books, theatre, TV, film, art, opera, music and dance helps us to glimpse other people’s lives. We can empathise, imagine, admire, dream of something better, or encounter and confront feelings of fear or sadness within the safety of a story.
