ABSTRACT

The pragma-dialectical approach centers around resolving differences of opinion by means of argumentative discourse. To be able to explain what resolving a difference of opinion entails, we must first explain what we mean by argumentative discourse, or rather by a discursive text, as we call that part of the argumentative discourse where a resolution for a difference is concretely pursued. In this book, a discursive text is the fully fledged constellation of utterances (which may be either written or spoken) that have been advanced in defense of a standpoint.
